Sempervivum ‘Gold Rush’ (Hens and Chicks) is a mat-forming succulent perennial forming attractive, evergreen rosettes, 5-6 in. wide (12-15 cm), of fleshy, ruby-red leaves with bright gold tips. It is similar to our popular Sempervivum ‘Gold Nugget’ but the rosette is larger, more open and the leaves are thinner. The mother rosette (Hen) spreads in all directions by horizontal stems to form offsets (chicks). Each offset will develop roots of its own and become independent of the parent plant as he connecting stolon withers. The offsets usually make up for the losses and fill the gaps left by the dead rosettes. Cute, but tough, this Sempervivum is tolerant of drought. Low water needs. Allow soil to dry out completely between each watering. Use well draining soil.
Size: Grows 2–3 inches tall and spreads about 4–6 inches wide.
