Little Bluestem ‘Standing Ovation’
‘Standing Ovation’ is a more upright and sturdy form of native little bluestem, making it useful when you want an ornamental grass that maintains a strong vertical presence rather than flopping outward. Its summer foliage is blue-green with purplish tones near the base, then becomes increasingly dramatic in autumn, changing to orange, red and reddish-purple. In late summer, narrow silvery flower spikes rise above the foliage and remain attractive as they mature into seed heads.
Height: about 3–4 feet
Width: about 2 feet
Flower time: August–September, with seed-head interest lasting into fall and winter
Sun/Shade: Full sun to partial shade
