Little Bluestem ‘Chameleon’
‘Chameleon’ is an unusual selection of native little bluestem that stands out because of its variegated foliage. The blades emerge green with prominent white or cream margins, giving the plant a much brighter appearance than ordinary little bluestem. As summer progresses, the foliage begins taking on pink, purple, wine-red and burgundy tones, so the plant changes substantially as the season progresses. In late summer and early fall, small silvery-white to pale-tan flower/seed plumes rise above the foliage.
Height: about 24–36 inches, depending on conditions
Width: about 18–24 inches
Flower time: Late summer into early fall
Sun/Shade: Full sun
