Japanese Forest Grass ‘All Gold’

$25.00

‘All Gold’ is a beautiful, relatively small ornamental grass that is especially useful for brightening shady areas. Its narrow leaves are a striking golden-yellow, although they become more chartreuse when grown in deeper shade. Unlike some Hakone grasses that form very low, floppy mounds, ‘All Gold’ has a somewhat more upright habit when young before gradually developing the graceful arching or cascading form characteristic of Japanese forest grass. Small yellow-green flower panicles appear in late summer, but the flowers are secondary—the gold foliage is the real reason to grow it. It prefers rich, consistently moist, well-drained soil and is best protected from hot afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves. It is slow growing and therefore won't rapidly take over an area, and it is considered deer resistant.

Height: about 12–18 inches
Width: about 18–24 inches
Sun/Shade: Part shade to shade; avoid hot full sun
Deer resistant
Rabbit resistant
