Amelanchier ‘Princess Diana’
A beautiful small flowering tree with white spring flowers, edible blue-purple berries, and excellent red fall color. Young foliage emerges with a bronze tint before becoming green. It provides several seasons of interest rather than relying on flowers alone.
Size: approximately 20–25 ft. tall × 15–20 ft. wide. Though they do not grow this large in our climate, peaking at around 15ft tall
Bloom time: March–April.
Flower color: White
Fruit: Blue-purple, edible, approximately ⅜ inch. I very much enjoy the berries
Fall color: Brilliant red to red-orange
Best features: Four-season interest, edible fruit, beautiful spring bloom, and exceptional fall color.
It can be grown as either a single-trunk tree or a multi-stemmed small tree, making it useful in naturalistic landscapes as well as more formal gardens.
